This is your final polish before publishing—correcting surface-level errors like grammar, punctuation, and formatting. Clean, consistent, and typo-free.

Copy Editing

The “make it sing” part.

Copyediting includes everything a proofreader does—plus deeper edits to ensure your writing is clear, well-structured, and aligned with your tone and goals.

You deserve great editing and a great deal.
That’s why I charge whichever rate is less expensive for you—
per word, per page, or per hour.
No surprises, just quality work at the best possible value.

My rates are based on the Editorial Freelancers Association’s Annual Rate Chart. My published rates are for straight copy, so I aligned with the EFA rates for fiction.
More complex projects will be priced accordingly.

$40/hour

$0.020 per word

$5.00 per page (based on 250 words)

$45/hour
$0.025 - $0.03 per word
$6.25 per page (based on 250 words)

Example: Let's assume that a 20,000-word essay takes me 14 hours to complete.
  • By the word, this would cost $500-600.
  • By the page (250 words/page), this would cost $500-600.
  • By the hour, this would cost $630.
You would pay the lesser of the two amounts.

Example: Let’s assume that a 20,000-word essay takes me 7.5 hours to complete.
  • By the word, this would cost $400.
  • By the page (250 words/page), this would cost $400.
  • By the hour, this would cost $300.
You would pay the lesser of the two amounts.

The Bottom Line

Let’s take the mystery out of this money thing.

Developmental Editing

This is a big-picture overview of your emerging work, ensuring that your structure, characters, pacing, and sequencing effectively support and enhance your work in the best possible light.

$50-60 per hour

$0.04-0.05 per word

$10-12 per page (250 words)

Let's assume that a 20,000-word manuscript takes me 14 hours to complete.
  • By the word, this would cost $800-$1,000.
  • By the page (250 words/page), this would cost $800-$1,000.
  • By the hour, this would cost $700-$840.
You would pay the lesser of the two amounts.
